Monday's

Today, I convinced the Farmer to spend the day with me, or at least after the Vet came for a routine visit. We headed off to the big city to pick up, yup you're right...Frill Seeker! 10 new colours, and 4 colours of the Lace effect. Then to the mall for a few household errands and a stop for caffeine along the way. A quick trip to the Grocery store and then headed to the shop to unload the yarn and put up some new shelves he made last week.

I did get to go out for supper..so a pretty good day all round.

No pictures it's late and I want to work on the 2nd of two hats I am making as shop samples. A new favourite yarn!

Come see!

Dreaming?

The only problem with this is that if yarn really fell from the sky..I would never meet all the amazing people that come in to the shop!

See You Tuesday!

Two Things!

Two thing that aren't happening today:

#1 No big snowstorm for Bowmanville, everyone was worried about the big storm heading our way and Lake Ontario did it's job and kept it from coming this direction! (I don't know if my 'science' is right, but those lakes seem to keep all the nasty snow weather south of us when the wind is from the North.)

#2 Frill Seeker is not coming to the shop. It is still in processing!

Things that will get done today: I will attempt to empty the boxes that decorate the shop!

See you Soon

New Stuff!

I have spent a good part of the last week opening box after box of some really great new stuff! Sock Yarn from Regia. I put together the stand all by myself!
This box is filled with the new Liberty Wool. Washable 100% wool in great colour themes. The book has some great patterns.

New Wooden Shawl Pins, I just asked for the pretty ones and they came!

Lantern Moon products are now more readily available to me. Above is Baabs the scissor holder there are some really cute bags and other 'gifty' products from this lovely company. They make the products in Vietnam and the company supports women and their families. If there is anything on the website that you would like I would be more than happy to order it for you.
There are some Yarn Challenge Packages left to claim. $5 gets you into the challenge. It's fun to watch every one's expressions and they plan their projects.
See You Soon.

Family Day?

It's Monday and Family Day. A Holiday here in Ontario. Someone asked last week if I would close on Tuesday because Monday is my regular 'day off. As I am self employed Holidays have a different meaning altogether. The Farmer sees these Holidays as a bit of an inconvenience because equipment doesn't recognize Statutory Holidays and they tend to break down and require parts that aren't available till the next day or later.

Today is 'bill day' for the Farm, I catch-up on last month's accounting and pay the 'staff': the vet, the parts supplier, the feed company.....but I am stalling because I would rather sit in my 'nest' and knit in the sunshine.

Or learn something new with my new toy?

The dog wants out, I am going for a walk then back to work...maybe.

Have a lovely "day off"

See You Soon.

Sweater Day!

Okay, today WWF has made this Sweater Day! Pull out those sweaters you have knit in the past and turn down the thermostat in the house 3 degrees. (I could do that a the shop, but then it would actually be warmer outside! ;) The thermostat here reads a balmy 16 degrees C. )

At least the Weather has co-operated and made it easy to turn down the heat and use less energy!

Gwen's February Lady Sweater, we are thinking of doing a knit-a-long (KAL) class for this project. If you are interested in joining us contact the shop.
Turn down the heat, put on a sweater, save the planet!
Tomorrow is Knitt'n Night! Bring a swatch if you want to learn some fix-it tricks!
See You Soon.

Thanks!

Are you Ready for a Challenge!

It's that time again. Yarn Challenge Time. This year's challenge is a bit different. These are the 'colours' that I have chosen, but there is a twist in that you can choose the 4th colour. from these 4, my screen is not showing these very well, but they all look great with the other 3.This year's challenge is to use only the colours provided, you can purchase more of the colours to create a larger project. There is enough to make a small project. (I am not going to suggest anything because I don't want to influence you in any way.)

The Yarn is Cascade 220, the most popular yarn on Ravelry. It is 100% wool, very soft and felts beautifully.

With any competition there are prizes, last year some of the yarn suppliers donated prizes and I will attempt to have them donate again.

1st prize is $30 Gift Certificate to Soper Creek Yarn
2nd and 3rd prizes both receive $15 Gift Certificates.

We have wound up 12 kits (Kits are $5 each). Entries are due back to the shop on March 21st, voting will take place the week following that and the winners announced on April 1st.

This Friday is Knitt'n Night, 6 pm - 8:30 pm. We are working on shawls, we could do a little 'fix your mistakes lesson' if you bring in a swatch of stockinette stitch about 6 x 10 inches, the bigger the swatch the more we can do with it...leave it on the needles. (Worsted weight, smooth yarn, 5mm needles cast on 30 stitches knit 1 row purl 1row for 6 inches)

Last time we did a quick blocking session on a Shawl knit by and eager knitter who is attempting to knit a shawl every 2 weeks!

This past Saturday we had many knitters come in with completed projects and with permission I am posting them on the Facebook page. Go have a look!

Still patiently waiting for many other orders!

Winding balls of yarn for the 3rd Annual Yarn Challenge!

Kits will be available next week.

Hint, 3 colours + 1 colour to choose yourself.

See You Soon.

February!

Do you know what that means?

Time for the Soper Creek Yarn "Yarn Challenge". The biggest challenge is coming up with theme for this year. I am auditioning yarns and colours as we speak. The first year we used Shepherd Classic Wool and then last year we used Mission Falls 1824 wool in the Olympic theme colours. What to do? What to do? I will keep you posted and kits should be available after February 14th, (now that I have confirmed the date I am obligated to get this done!)

I you aren't up for a challenge but want to do something good. I have been asked to collect 6 inch and 12 inch squares to be used to make blankets for Orphans in the Ukraine. You can make them from any yarn and they can be either knit or crochet. A great way to sample knitting and crochet patterns and warm up a child at the same time!

Another good thing: The students from St. Stephen's High school have formed a knitting group that are knitting dolls to send to Children with HIV Aids in Africa. They are looking for donations of black and brown ('worsted weight' or similar) and brightly coloured yarns to knit these lovely dolls. (once again the computer cords for the camera are not with the camera!)

Tonight is Knitt'n Night,

See you soon

Snow Day!

I am at the shop, the drive was okay, it looks like it will be a quiet day. Loads of paper work to do and orders to finish.

I dreaded shovelling the front walk but when I arrived the guys from James Publishing had cleared all the snow and even made pathways to the parking spots on the street!

If you have to go out be careful.

See you soon.
